Mate Terms of Service

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use Mate.

By using the Service, you represent and warrant that:

• You are at least 18 years of age.
• You have the legal capacity to enter a binding agreement.
• You are not prohibited from using the Service under applicable law.
• You are using the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes only.

Additional Eligibility Restrictions

During certain phases of operation, Mate may restrict access to:

• Students enrolled at designated universities
• Individuals with verified academic email addresses
• Authorized testers, staff, or invited participants

You agree to provide accurate eligibility information. Mate may revoke access if eligibility requirements are not met.

Mate reserves the right to modify or expand eligibility criteria at any time.

2. Description of Service

Mate is a virtual speed dating and social connection platform that facilitates structured live video interactions between users.

Users may be matched randomly or through compatibility-based systems.

Mate does not guarantee compatibility, chemistry, romantic outcomes, or continued communication.

3. Paid Services

Mate may offer paid access to virtual events, premium features, or subscription plans (“Paid Services”).

Access to Paid Services grants participation only and does not guarantee:

• Matches
• Number of interactions
• Attraction
• Relationship outcomes

Prices may change at any time.

4. Payment Methods

Paid Services may be purchased:

• Through the Mate website
• Through third-party payment processors
• Through Apple In-App Purchase
• Through Google Play Billing

If purchased via app store:

• Billing is handled by Apple or Google.
• Refunds must be requested directly through the app store.

If purchased via the Mate website:

• You authorize Mate and its processors to charge your selected payment method.
• You agree to provide accurate billing information.

Mate may suspend accounts associated with failed payments or chargebacks.

5. Refunds and Cancellations

Unless otherwise stated:

• Event purchases are non-refundable.
• Failure to attend does not qualify for a refund.
• If Mate cancels an event, Mate may issue a refund or credit at its discretion.
• App store refunds must be requested through the applicable app store.

Mate may review exceptional cases individually.

6. Subscriptions (If Offered)

If subscriptions are offered:

• They automatically renew unless canceled.
• You authorize recurring charges.
• You may cancel via account settings or through the app store.
• Cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing cycle.

Mate will disclose subscription terms at the time of purchase.

7. Community Standards

Mate maintains a zero-tolerance policy for:

• Nudity or sexually explicit conduct
• Harassment or stalking
• Threats or intimidation
• Hate speech
• Doxxing
• Recording video sessions without consent
• Fraud or solicitation of money
• Bypassing moderation systems

Violations may result in immediate suspension or permanent removal.

8. Reporting and Enforcement

Users may report misconduct through in-app tools.

Mate may suspend or terminate accounts based on:

• Violations of these Terms
• User reports
• Safety concerns
• Repeated complaints
• Behavior deemed harmful to the community

Mate reserves sole discretion in determining whether conduct warrants action.

Mate is not required to disclose investigation details.

Users who are suspended or banned may not create new accounts to evade enforcement.

9. Assumption of Risk

You understand that:

• You may interact with users selected at random.
• Users may misrepresent themselves.
• Conversations may be unpredictable.

You voluntarily assume all risks associated with interactions on the platform.

Mate is not responsible for user conduct.

10. No Background Checks

Mate does not conduct criminal background checks unless explicitly stated.

11. Electronic Communications

By creating an account, you consent to receive:

• Account notifications
• Service updates
• Email communications
• SMS messages where you opt in

SMS messages are governed by Mate’s Mobile Terms.

12. Intellectual Property

All Mate branding, technology, and software are owned by Mate or its licensors.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Mate from claims arising from:

• Your use of the Service
• Your interactions with other users
• Your violation of these Terms

14. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is.”

Mate makes no guarantees regarding:

• Compatibility
• Event outcomes
• Continuous availability

15. Limitation of Liability

Mate shall not be liable for:

• User conduct
• Emotional distress
• Indirect or consequential damages

Mate’s total liability for Paid Services shall not exceed the amount you paid in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

16. Arbitration

All disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration on an individual basis.

You waive:

• Jury trial
• Class action participation

Arbitration shall occur in San Francisco County, California.

17. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware.

18. Changes to Terms

Mate may update these Terms at any time.
